We just got back from a cruise, which we both needed badly. We left out of Miami and went to Key West and Cozumel. We had a great time and in hindsight I wish I had taken more pictures, (but really the last thing I was thinking about was taking pictures).

A woman in Utah was in her car when her battery went dead, at which point she found herself trapped. Locked inside her own car! She then called 911 to have someone come and help her when:
When police arrived, they found the woman sitting in the car, unable to get herself out. She couldn’t hear the officers instructions through the rolled-up windows so she motioned to them to call her on her cell phone, according to police.
Once officers were able to talk to the woman on the phone, they were able to tell her how to manually operate the slide lock mechanism on the inside door panel to open the door and free herself.
Seriously?? Are people really so lost that they don’t even know how to unlock a car door anymore?

We’ve finally moved into our new house. We got in last week but won’t have internet or cable till next week thanks to Comcast being run by drunk monkeys (except you Britt, you’re cool).
You don’t really realize all the junk you have until you’ve packed it up and moved it. I am definitely in need of a good purging. Hopefully I can sell some stuff off that we don’t need (seriously, 4 computers, really?)
As I mentioned earlier Comcast is royally screwing us over. I had put in a request to have our service transferred 3 weeks ago, and twice when I called back to verify this they had no record of the request. When I called back again this morning they didn’t have a record of either previous request so I had to make yet another one. Plus they said they can’t come out till next Monday AND I’d have to pay for a transfer fee!
I called back to get someone else to waive this fee (because why should I pay them for something they’ve failed to do?) but they still won’t be able to come out till next Monday. :8/
It’s been quite a hassle, especially with Whitney trying to do stuff for grad school and me trying to do websites.
But that’s enough about Comcast…I’ve gotten that out.
We’re really excited about the new house, we really like it a lot. It will be nice when we’re not living out of boxes any more though. The whole moving-in thing kinda came at a bad time for Whitney. She’s got a class that she’s taking all week at night and she has to go this weekend too. She’s really been stressed, but it’s going to take a lot for her to finish this degree by the end of the year.
I’m sure it’ll take a couple of weeks before we’re actually settled in, but we’re getting there. Most of the rooms actually look like rooms now. Hopefully we can take some pictures and be able to post them up soon!

I’ve been so busy with buying this house and everything that I haven’t been able to post in a little while. Well we finally decided on the Brownstone Square townhouse (pictured earlier) and we’re going to be closing at the end of the month! … everything has happened so fast!!
But we’re both very excited and can’t wait to get in! Looking at them again I think we made the right decision. We actually got to meet our neighbors that are already in there and they said they liked it there a lot.
One thing was kind of odd though….while were looking at it after we signed the contract we came outside and found this guy hanging out in our driveway:

It’s called an alligator turtle and man did he look nasty.
For those of you who need that in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle terms, it’s the thing that becomes this:

Thanks Wikipedia!
We think he crawled out from the creek across the street. Luckily our dog Chloe wasn’t with us or she would have definitely been freaking out…possibly got her nose bitten or something worse. I hope that’s the last we see of any of those things.
Anyway we’re just getting everything packed up and ready to go now, can’t wait to get in there!

I know we could all use some of these tips. Sometimes it seems like there’s just too much trying to grab our attention every day. And most of the time it’s completely unnecessary.
Brian Oberkirch has a great post about scaling back some of the things that try to grab our attention.
* I’m checking email Dr. Pepper style, at 10,2 and 4. Batching should help, and also making it a sprint to process my inbox within 10 to 15 minutes. ‘Reply to’ stuff goes in that folder. Stuff I note and might want later goes to ‘Archive’. Stuff I never need again gets deleted. You can delete a ton of your email. Really. Process voice mails at the same time. (I’ll also do an RSS feed run at these times. I’ll reward myself with a flickr/twitter/mefi review if I’m a good boy.)
* No email review in the morning as I start my machine.
* Unsubbed from all email discussion lists.

Whitney and I went looking at houses last weekend and we saw one that we really liked, and it’s a real house! It is a little older (built in 1997) but it is a better deal than the townhouses we looked at. Plus, we’d have a yard for our dog Chloe to run around in.
We haven’t decided if this is going to be the one, but we both feel really good about this one.
We’re just keeping our fingers crossed that we get it.
Update: This house went under contract before we could even put a bid on it, back to looking at Brownstone Square townhouse again. May 2007

Whitney and I are looking at buying a home pretty soon. Right now we’re looking at a new townhouse in Marietta. But there’s also some others that we might be interested in. I really hope we can get in one this summer, but we’ll just have to see.

I’ve been doing a lot of reading about Getting Things Done (GTD) lately and I feel like I have the ability to get more done in my life. I have all of this time in the mornings that I rarely use because I’m sleeping. Since I don’t have to work until noon I have the entire morning to do whatever I want, but that time rarely gets used. I find myself going through phases of getting up early and doing things, only to fall back into my same old system.
Lately I had the problem of working on a website that kept me up late at night. Then while I was trying to get back into getting up and working out, I got sick. There went the whole week.
Looking at posts from Steve Pavlina and from Zen Habits I’ve got some good ideas about this and I really feel like I should be able to do it.
There are so many things that I enjoy doing like reading and *gasp* eating breakfast, that I’d like to be able to do again.
More than anything I just want to be better to my body and get in shape.

Since it’s been eons since I’ve posted I figured it was about time. There’s been a good bit going on and I figured what good is a dormant blog to be just hanging around here.
Whitney and I are looking for our first house and we may have found it! We’ve found a townhouse in Marietta that we really like a lot. We’ve gotten pre-approved (which can be a pain, be prepared to fax your life away) and we’re trying to close around the end of May so we can move in right around when our lease runs out at the end of June.
Whitney doesn’t have too much longer left before she graduates with her Master’s degree and then she starts working on her specialist’s degree. She should be done at the end of this year, which will be nice. I know she is really starting to get sick of school. As would I if I had been in school my entire life.
I’m still playing for Honey Brown. Hopefully we can get something going with that. It’s a lot of fun to do, but sometimes it just seems like there’s not enough time for everything.
But I guess a lot of life is just figuring out how to make the time for the things you really want to do. And not wasting your time with everything else.
Well hopefully I’m not wasting anyone’s time.

First of all, I just downloaded the new Petty album today and it’s really good.
Whitney and have been going through having to make some pretty big decisions lately. We’ve both decided that we really want to get a dog, but we’ve also been talking about how I would probably be getting a new truck soon. I had thought that I wouldn’t need to get a truck for a while (at least until November or so) but now mine is acting up so I may need to be thinking about getting one sooner than I thought.
The problem is I don’t know if it would really be wise for us to be getting a new truck and puppy at the same time. They’re both going to cost us a lot of money and I don’t want us to get stuck in more debt because we made the wrong decision. Whitney’s starting an internship soon and is going to be surrounded by abused children all day, so it’d be good to get something like that to cheer her up. On the flip side, if my truck dies then I’m going to have to figure out another way to get around and to work, etc. for a while.
It’s really tough to because the dogs we are looking at are adorable I want to go and pick one up today….but we’re still trying to decide on that too because we’re not sure if we want a dog that will shed that much.
I wish there was a simple way to make these decisions. I hope there is some way that we can work it out to do both but we’ll just have to see.
