That’s what I’m talkin about

UGA 2008 National Champs!

This is still a complete longshot for them to do a playoff like this, but I can still dream.

On the Blackout

Posted in Sports at 7:30 pm by mdellinger

Moreno and Bailey levitatingIf you had come up to me after UGA lost to South Carolina in the 2nd week of the season, or after Georgia was manhandled by Tennessee in Knoxville, and said that we would beat both Florida and Auburn this season, I would have said you’re crazy. But the Dawgs have brought out a kind of intensity that this team hasn’t played with in a long time.

You can call it gimicky coaching moves or say that this won’t last, but the truth of it is these guys are winning and they’re psyched about it. They’re still young guys and it was time to light a fire under them and nobody could have done this better than Coach Richt. He should be coach of the year after the way he’s turned around this program from those two losses. Especially after getting destroyed by Tennessee and then barely squeaking by Vandy.

He’s turned a lackluster ‘At least we have next year’ season into a great one.

And the way Knowshon Moreno is playing, there could be Heisman coming his way as soon as next year. The kid is simply amazing and the best running back to come our way since Herschel. With him and Thomas Brown both healthy I’m very excited about the rest of the season. I can’t take anything away from Stafford either, he’s really showing the type of QB that he came here to be and not letting early mistakes dictate the rest of the game.

As far as the rest of the year goes, I’d really like a chance at playing LSU in the SEC championship, but also have to be realistic that the best we can do is the Sugar Bowl. If UT were to win out and play LSU in the SEC, they’d likely lose and by our higher ranking we’d probably go to the Sugar. So while it would be sweet to have a shot at LSU, I really question whether or not we could beat them.

But winning the SEC over the #1 ranked team sure would be sweet.

Great game, dignified with…a Britney reference?

What an amazing game last Saturday in Tuscaloosa. Hard fought by both UGA and Bama, and it all came down to this one play. I know the first thing on my mind was…..Britney?!?

Vick is completely done for

Posted in News, Sports at 6:22 pm by mdellinger

So the last post was about Vick too, wanna fight about it? As long as that fight involves two humans who are willingly fighting, then that’s cool.

After a long drawn out process complete with snide comments like “Of course people are gonna support Mike Vick” and a blatant lie to the NFL, the Falcons, and the public that he had nothing to do with this, Vick has decided to take the plea deal. Because after every single one of his buddies started spilling their guts, he knew there was no way he was going to make it out of this one. It’s to the point where his best bet is to take his licks and try and get the least penalty possible.

Taking the plea deal not only admits that he was a part of a barbaric activity, it also admits that he is a liar and a thug who just can’t seem to separate himself from a lifestyle. Even though he was getting paid millions and was just getting into the prime of his career. It just doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Now the question is what will his suspension from the NFL be? I’m hoping for indefinitely, but if he does come back I don’t want him on the Falcons (Not that they’d take him at this point). With the guilty plea to be entered next Monday, they should have something soon after that.

After all of this what is completely baffling to me is the fact that there are some people who are still behind him. Saying that it’s a wasted talent to never let him play in the NFL again. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think anybody has the right to play professional football. I’ll check the Constitution again, but I’m pretty sure. ;)
The only saving grace to could possibly of this whole thing is at least there will be a little more awareness that this is going on. And maybe law enforcement will crack down harder on these underground dogfighting rings. It’s sick that anyone could treat any living thing this way.

Say it ain’t so Mike

Posted in Sports at 4:44 pm by mdellinger

Mike VickI wanted to believe Mike Vick when he said he wasn’t involved with any dog fighting, I really did. But now I just feel like I don’t want him around anymore. Lately he’s been such a nuisance and a distraction on the Falcons and now he’s just making a mockery of the whole incident.

This is what he said to a local reporter outside a Falcons event in Atlanta:

REPORTER: Michael, do you think fans still support the Falcons?
VICK: They have to support us, dawg, that’s what fans do. They gotta
support us if they want us to win.
REPORTER: So amidst all the controversy you think they still support you?
VICK: Everyone supports me, man. I walk down the street, they all support Mike Vick. My job is to win football games.
REPORTER: So do you think in the end you’ll be exonerated from these dog
fighting allegations?
VICk: No comment, dawg.

Mike, just because you can run like a crazy mofo doesn’t mean everybody’s going to cut you a break on this one. And I guess since your job is to win football games, how about winning some man? We’ve been to the playoffs once since you got here and it wasn’t very pretty.

Is it too much to ask to have a decent team that doesn’t have constant controversy surrounding it? I was excited when Vick first got here but I’m pretty much over that now. If it turns out he is involved in all of this there’s going to be a jersey and a bobblehead going quickly to eBay. Read the rest of this entry »

Thanks for a great year, Thrashers!

Posted in Sports at 6:03 pm by mdellinger

I can’t say the playoffs went as well as I would have hoped. But it has been one hell of a year. They really fought hard to win the division and caught a tough break having to play the Rangers first in the post-season. They’ve been on fire and really kept up that intensity when they played Atlanta.

I’m a little worried about who will be coming back next year. We only have 8 guys under contract. Kovalchuk and our goalies will still be around. But a lot of our other stars like Tkachuk and Hossa, I hope we can give them some kind of contract or we may have seen the last of them.

For now, it’s time to watch the Braves as they’re off to a great start.

I really look forward to watching more Thrashers hockey and I still believe in Blueland!

That was a travesty of a game for the Thrash last night. I couldn’t even watch.

Well, it’s been a hard fought season. Game 4 tonight, the Thrashers better bump up the intensity.

Tough loss for the Thrashers last night. They played really well though, I’m still excited about this series. Both teams have really come to play and it showed.

Bring it on home

Posted in Sports at 2:23 pm by mdellinger

YEAAHHH!

The Thrashers are about to start their Stanley Cup Playoff run against the New York Rangers and I for one am psyched. This is the first time they’ve made the postseason and they’ve done it with winning the Southeast Division.

I think they’ve got a very good shot with Kari Lehtonen in goal and the additions of Keith Tkachuck and Alexei Zhitnik. They’ve really come alive toward the end of the season. There was a while during the middle of the season when they started to slump a little and really fell behind in their power plays and penalty kills.

I think as long as they can keep up the intensity they have a very good chance to bring the cup home to Blueland!
