Vick is completely done for

Posted in News, Sports at 6:22 pm by mdellinger

So the last post was about Vick too, wanna fight about it? As long as that fight involves two humans who are willingly fighting, then that’s cool.

After a long drawn out process complete with snide comments like “Of course people are gonna support Mike Vick” and a blatant lie to the NFL, the Falcons, and the public that he had nothing to do with this, Vick has decided to take the plea deal. Because after every single one of his buddies started spilling their guts, he knew there was no way he was going to make it out of this one. It’s to the point where his best bet is to take his licks and try and get the least penalty possible.

Taking the plea deal not only admits that he was a part of a barbaric activity, it also admits that he is a liar and a thug who just can’t seem to separate himself from a lifestyle. Even though he was getting paid millions and was just getting into the prime of his career. It just doesn’t seem worth it to me.

Now the question is what will his suspension from the NFL be? I’m hoping for indefinitely, but if he does come back I don’t want him on the Falcons (Not that they’d take him at this point). With the guilty plea to be entered next Monday, they should have something soon after that.

After all of this what is completely baffling to me is the fact that there are some people who are still behind him. Saying that it’s a wasted talent to never let him play in the NFL again. Correct me if I’m wrong but I don’t think anybody has the right to play professional football. I’ll check the Constitution again, but I’m pretty sure. ;)
The only saving grace to could possibly of this whole thing is at least there will be a little more awareness that this is going on. And maybe law enforcement will crack down harder on these underground dogfighting rings. It’s sick that anyone could treat any living thing this way.

…and so it is.

3389-vickindicted.jpgWell Mike looks like you’re in for it now buddy. I wanted to hope that there was maybe possibly a slim chance that this would all blow over and it would have all been your buddies’ fault and you’d have no problems. But man they don’t just throw around federal indictments just to watch people squirm.

We’re talking prison time now. At this point I don’t see how anybody can support Mike Vick and it’s going to be hard to watch and cheer for his team on Sundays in the fall. Anybody that is involved in these underground dogfighting rings is just sick.

They may not care about dogs because they’re animals, but they feel pain just as much as a person does. And some of the ways they’ve said they killed dogs is just gruesome. I don’t want to really explain it, but the whole indictment pretty much spells it out.

I don’t even think prison time is enough punishment for these guys… well your mediocre career has been thrown down the toilet by a stupid gambling habit. Hope you’re cool with that.

The Wilbury Twist

Probably one of the coolest supergroups ever. The basically threw the band together because when they were hanging out and jamming one night, decided to put out a couple an album as a lark and there you go. They just re-released their CD’s with apparently some unreleased tracks on it. I’m looking forward to hearing it.

The end of The Sopranos - CUT TO: Black

Posted in TV at 3:26 pm by mdellinger

The Sopranos final season

There’s been a lot of controversy surrounding the ending to The Sopranos finale. I have to say at first I wasn’t pleased with it. But I also have to give them credit for doing something completely unexpected. The abrupt ending in the finale when they cut to black sent millions flocking to call their cable operators and even caused HBO.com to crash for a while. Anytime you can cause accidental mass hysteria with a TV show, kudos.

I can’t say that I’m really happy with the way it ended. But the more I think about it, it could have been sheer genius on their part. Because while they didn’t technically kill Tony off, they sort of did. They left it up to everyone to figure out what happened and at any point they can just say that’s what they were trying to do all along.

The best explanation I’ve seen so far is that when they replayed the scene with Bobby in the boat they were foreshadowing that when your time finally comes you don’t even see it, it just cuts to black. Whether or not that’s what they meant by that ending still hasn’t been said.

They now have a number of options:

  • A Sopranos movie - Since Tony isn’t technically dead they have the freedom to do a movie now. Although I’ve heard they haven’t really thought about going that route. Once they’re not getting the Sopranos cash they were getting, this could be a pretty sweet gig.
  • A spinoff? - Ok, spinoffs are usually pretty lame (Jake and the Fatman, Joanie Loves Chachi), but what about a show that goes back to the days when Johnny and Junior ruled North Jersey. “That’d be nice” And I’m sure they could get all kinds of storylines, they already have some scenes written for them in older episodes.
  • Bring it back later - Probably even less likely to happen, but with everybody that will be dropping their HBO subscriptions and if Chase can’t cut it in movies, could be a decent option for both of them. A downside to this though is that they have gotten rid of a lot of their more interesting characters (Christopher could have had his own show).
  • Actually call it quits - Don’t know if it’s just the denial that the show is actually over, but I still hold a glimmer of hope that there’s something. Granted some of the episodes were getting a little lack-luster. And they definitely jumped the shark with the whole Vito storyline.

For now it’s the end of an era. The Sopranos has been one of those shows you kind of got used to having around. Even when there was nothing but complete schlock on TV, they were always there to remind you what good television was like.

In the new house….fed up with Comcast

Posted in Life at 6:08 pm by mdellinger

Comcast is run by drunk monkeysWe’ve finally moved into our new house. We got in last week but won’t have internet or cable till next week thanks to Comcast being run by drunk monkeys (except you Britt, you’re cool).

You don’t really realize all the junk you have until you’ve packed it up and moved it. I am definitely in need of a good purging. Hopefully I can sell some stuff off that we don’t need (seriously, 4 computers, really?)

As I mentioned earlier Comcast is royally screwing us over. I had put in a request to have our service transferred 3 weeks ago, and twice when I called back to verify this they had no record of the request. When I called back again this morning they didn’t have a record of either previous request so I had to make yet another one. Plus they said they can’t come out till next Monday AND I’d have to pay for a transfer fee!

I called back to get someone else to waive this fee (because why should I pay them for something they’ve failed to do?) but they still won’t be able to come out till next Monday. :8/

It’s been quite a hassle, especially with Whitney trying to do stuff for grad school and me trying to do websites.

But that’s enough about Comcast…I’ve gotten that out.

We’re really excited about the new house, we really like it a lot. It will be nice when we’re not living out of boxes any more though. The whole moving-in thing kinda came at a bad time for Whitney. She’s got a class that she’s taking all week at night and she has to go this weekend too. She’s really been stressed, but it’s going to take a lot for her to finish this degree by the end of the year.

I’m sure it’ll take a couple of weeks before we’re actually settled in, but we’re getting there. Most of the rooms actually look like rooms now. Hopefully we can take some pictures and be able to post them up soon!

Say it ain’t so Mike

Posted in Sports at 4:44 pm by mdellinger

Mike VickI wanted to believe Mike Vick when he said he wasn’t involved with any dog fighting, I really did. But now I just feel like I don’t want him around anymore. Lately he’s been such a nuisance and a distraction on the Falcons and now he’s just making a mockery of the whole incident.

This is what he said to a local reporter outside a Falcons event in Atlanta:

REPORTER: Michael, do you think fans still support the Falcons?
VICK: They have to support us, dawg, that’s what fans do. They gotta
support us if they want us to win.
REPORTER: So amidst all the controversy you think they still support you?
VICK: Everyone supports me, man. I walk down the street, they all support Mike Vick. My job is to win football games.
REPORTER: So do you think in the end you’ll be exonerated from these dog
fighting allegations?
VICk: No comment, dawg.

Mike, just because you can run like a crazy mofo doesn’t mean everybody’s going to cut you a break on this one. And I guess since your job is to win football games, how about winning some man? We’ve been to the playoffs once since you got here and it wasn’t very pretty.

Is it too much to ask to have a decent team that doesn’t have constant controversy surrounding it? I was excited when Vick first got here but I’m pretty much over that now. If it turns out he is involved in all of this there’s going to be a jersey and a bobblehead going quickly to eBay. Read the rest of this entry »

All work and no play…

Posted in Life at 6:39 pm by mdellinger

I’ve been so busy with buying this house and everything that I haven’t been able to post in a little while. Well we finally decided on the Brownstone Square townhouse (pictured earlier) and we’re going to be closing at the end of the month! … everything has happened so fast!!

But we’re both very excited and can’t wait to get in! Looking at them again I think we made the right decision. We actually got to meet our neighbors that are already in there and they said they liked it there a lot.

One thing was kind of odd though….while were looking at it after we signed the contract we came outside and found this guy hanging out in our driveway:

Alligator turtle in our new driveway

Alligator turtle in our new driveway

It’s called an alligator turtle and man did he look nasty.

For those of you who need that in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle terms, it’s the thing that becomes this:

Thanks Wikipedia!

We think he crawled out from the creek across the street. Luckily our dog Chloe wasn’t with us or she would have definitely been freaking out…possibly got her nose bitten or something worse. I hope that’s the last we see of any of those things.

Anyway we’re just getting everything packed up and ready to go now, can’t wait to get in there!
